Another Week of Moving

Friday, Joel and I went to Kyoto for lunch and I got my nails done. Joel went to play pickleball and we had a relaxed night at home after a long week.

Saturday was a busy day. Joel took the kids to the gym, while I went for a couple of miles. Joel took Miles to his parents’ house for some one-on-one time with Grandma. Joel and his dad returned to our house with his dad’s trailer. Toby came up from South Dakota to assist with the moving. Together, the three of them managed to move the garage gym and some other bulky items to Joel’s parents’ garage.

I took Hailey to a graduation party. It was incredibly hot! They had a snow cone machine, which Hailey somewhat enjoyed. We played a simplified version of Spike Ball. The boys worked for about three hours. Toby went to his hotel to shower, while Joel took the kids to the local festival. Toby and I met them there. We rode rides, and the kids had some food. We stayed until about 7 p.m. Joel and I grabbed pizza and headed home. The kids stayed up until a little after 8 p.m. and ate some pizza with us.

Sunday was a miracle! The kids slept in until 7:30 am. Joel played pickleball with his dad to celebrate his dad’s birthday. I took the kids to Toby’s hotel for breakfast and a dip in the pool. Miles was not interested in swimming at all. He even got out of the pool and stripped down naked to change into his clothes. I’m sure the other swimmers were impressed.

I took the kids to the gym to give myself an hour-long break. I read and planned out the week ahead. I brought the kiddos back to the local festival where they played music in the park and we got a snow cone. Back home, we relaxed a bit. I wanted to nap, but I couldn’t fall asleep. I got out of bed around 3 and took the kids to a friend’s house.

I had met her at a north metro book club I had decided to attend a couple of weeks ago for the first time. She was also moving, so we talked a lot about that at the book club and continued chatting afterward. She moved into her new house last week, so I took the kids there to play and help her unpack some of her moving boxes.

We then went home to pick up Joel and headed to his parents’ house for Indian food to celebrate his dad’s birthday dinner. It was so delicious and a wonderful evening!

Monday was an exciting day! I started my day with a run before work. I’m signed up for another Garmin coaching plan to help me train for the TC 10-mile race. I chose coach Amy this time as she bases it off distance instead of time and she is a slower ramp to the race. In the evening, I attended a book club organized by my new neighborhood. Despite not having moved in yet, they invited me to join. I’m fortunate to be friends with one of the women on the block, who kindly invited me. It was a wonderful time, and I’m so looking forward to exploring our new neighborhood. However, I stayed up much later than usual, not getting home until close to 10:30 p.m. and struggling to fall asleep until much later.

Started Tuesday strong – I managed to get my morning run in, even though I was definitely feeling the tired vibes. The plan called for a couple of easy miles, so I told myself it was doable… and got it done.

Big news: I finally made the switch back to an iPhone. I know, shocker, I switched phones again. I absolutely loved my Google Pixel, but between the constant texting hiccups with Joel and his family (and honestly, half the world), and some apps just not working as well on Android, I caved. Off to the Apple Store I went… and spent much of the day trying to get back into the Apple ecosystem.

Joel had pickleball after work, so I grabbed the kids and got them settled for the night. He ended up staying for dinner with a friend, so he came home after I had already passed out.

But of course, the night wasn’t over. The kids decided to throw a 2 a.m. party. I’ll own part of this one… I let them sleep in the same room again (which they’ve been doing a lot lately with the move chaos). At 2 a.m., Miles had a bad dream and woke up screaming. I calmed him down, but then they started chatting and playing… and it snowballed from there. By 4 a.m., after many “last warnings,” I finally had to separate them. So many tears and protests. Send coffee.

Wednesday kicked off bright and early (read: 2 a.m.). Thanks to the previous night’s “midnight sibling party,” I never really went back to sleep. The kids finally settled around 4:30, but by then I knew if I tried to sleep, I’d just feel worse.

Hailey was up and belting out songs at 5:30 and Miles followed soon after. I completely crashed, and thankfully Joel let me sleep until 8:15. Then it was a mad dash to get ready for our pre-signing appointment to close on our current home.

The rest of the day was absolutely packed. Work was a whirlwind with back to back meetings the whole day. Our moving pod showed up (ready for the movers on Saturday!), I grabbed more boxes from a friend, and squeezed in some last-minute packing. I even tackled the fridge – replaced the broken shelves, scrubbed the drawers and other shelves.

This was me and the kids last night sleeping in this house. The last night the kids went to bed here. A little emotional… this is the place we brought both our babies home to. So many memories packed into these walls. So many sleepless nights (which I’m sure will continue at the new house as well)

Me and the kids are off to Sioux Falls tomorrow to visit family and Joel will be home to handle the movers Saturday, then we move in with his parents for a week til we close on the new house. Our lives escalated quickly and looking forward to getting back into a routine of things!
