Book-a-Day Countdown Day 2 | Take Me There!

Continuing the Book-a-Day Countdown to 2026 with a little literary wanderlust.

The Prompt: The “Take Me There” Setting.

The Definition: A setting so vivid I wanted to plan a trip immediately.. kids (or maybe not), snacks, and chaos included.

Why I loved it: It’s December in Minnesota, so I am always looking for a book that can transport me somewhere else. [Author’s Name] wrote this setting so well I could practically smell the [mention a specific scent – e.g., salt air / pine trees / baking bread] and feel the [sun/snow/rain] on my face.

It wasn’t just a backdrop; the setting felt like a character in itself.

The Book:

The Cure for What Ales You (Sloan Krause #5)
by Ellie Alexander

My Rating:

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

The Destination: Leavenworth, Washington

Why it fits: You would think that since it’s cold and snowy in Minnesota, I would want to transport to a beach. However, I am dreaming of visiting another snowy location. From the first book in this series, I have wanted to go visit this town!

If you haven’t heard of this place, it’s a tiny town in the Cascade Mountains that modeled itself entirely after a Bavarian village. We’re talking timber-framed buildings, constant festivals, and schnitzel on every corner.

Ellie Alexander captures the vibe so perfectly (even though so many murders happen that she has to help solve!).

Between the descriptions of the crisp mountain air, the craft brewing culture, and the cozy snowy nights, I am ready to book a flight. Although it sounds like finding a place to stay during Oktoberfest or the Christmas Lights Festival would be tough!
