Day 23 of the Book-a-Day Countdown to 2026! (For all prompts, view this post)
The Prompt: The Highlighter Heavyweight.
The Definition: A specific line I want to save forever.
The Book:
The Wedding People by Alison Espach.
The Quote: “Life is strange. Always thinking that this one thing is going to make you happy. Because then you get it. And then you’re maybe not as happy as you imagined you would be. Because every day is just every day. Like the happiness becomes so big you have no choice but to live inside it. Until you can no longer see or feel it. And so you start to fixate on something else.”

My Rating:
As a runner, this hit me hard. You train for months for one finish line or one number on the scale, convinced this is the thing that will change everything. And then you cross it… and life just keeps going. The laundry is still there. The to-do list doesn’t magically disappear. The high fades faster than you expect.
This book captures that “okay, now what?” feeling that happiness is something we keep finding, over and over again, in the very ordinary, everyday moments.
