Day 24 of the Book-a-Day Countdown to 2026! (For all prompts, view this post)
The Prompt: The Unique Format.
The Definition: Structure or POV that totally worked
The Book:
The Last Word (The Spellman Files #6) by Lisa Lutz.
The Format: The “Documentary” Novel (feat. footnotes).

My Rating:
This one is a “documentary-style” novel told through transcripts, files, and footnotes. Sometimes the footnotes can be annoying, especially if you’re reading a kindle an have to keep clicking on them.. but the footnotes of this one are worth it. They are basically the punchlines where Isabel pulls the reader in.
I love this series so much. It took me a while to realize how much I enjoyed it, I might go back and reread the first book in 2026. The 6th book was a perfect wrap up for it.
Runner Up
The Book:
This Weekend Doesn’t End Well for Anyone (The Vacation Mysteries #3) by Catherine Mack
