| Hailey spent a good half hour saying “cheese” and sitting on the presents… and then taking her stuffed animals and having me take their pictures in front of the tree while saying “cheese” |
What an interesting Christmas. It’s so tough when you get so excited and have all these expectations and then the daycare germs just bring them crashing down.
Starting at the beginning – we got notified Tuesday that there was norovisus in Miles’ room and that he had been exposed on Monday. He had been very, very poopy but no throwing up or fever or anything. He didn’t even really have diarrhea or anything. Talking to his teacher, she was somewhat skeptical whether he had the virus or not, and mentioned to just keep an eye on Hailey too. Thing seemed fine going into Thursday, Miles was still very poopy but nothing crazy.
Thursday night, I brought Hailey and Miles over to Joel’s parents to hang out. Hailey had been quite a grump all afternoon, so figured that would be a good thing to keep her distracted. Maybe half hour after getting there… she started throwing up everywhere. We hung out in the bathroom for a bit, tried to get her some water, but she threw that up too. Joel got to his parents house after playing pickleball and we headed back home. I stayed in Hailey’s room until about 11/11:30 to see if she threw up again, but she was fine. She woke up a couple time asking for water, so I gave her some sips.
Friday morning, I woke up and had a slightly upset tummy. Joel got Miles down for a nap and went to do his workout and I fell asleep on the living room floor while Hailey played. I woke up from my very uncomfortable sleep and was super hungry. I ate some food at felt completely fine, so didn’t really think it was the tummy bug (hindsight 20/20….). We headed over to Joel’s parent late afternoon figuring it had been about 24 hours since Hailey had thrown up and everyone seemed fine.
We had a great time that evening hanging out. We had appetizers and drinks – Joel’s uncle and cousin even drove up from Lakeville. We got the kids to bed and then went and sat in the hot tub. We went down to bed, I slept in the room with Hailey and Joel took the room with Miles. Around 2am, Joel woke me up and asked me to take Miles… Joel had started throwing up around midnight and Miles was waking Joel up multiple times an hour. I went in there and Miles woke up at 3 to eat and then wouldn’t go back to bed. I let him sleep on me and I read my book since I’m terrified of falling asleep with him on me. Around 5, Joel decided to go home and let Dakota out and rest at home. I made the mistake of trying to transport into Hailey’s room with Miles still sleeping, he woke up and cried and woke Hailey up. So we were up for the day at a little after 5.
We hung out and Hailey watched Cocomelon so that I could keep her quiet and not wake up the rest of the house. As people started to wake up, we had coffee and eventually had some homemade cinnamon rolls for brunch – the best Christmas tradition, Sheri makes the absolute best cinnamon rolls. Joel had started to feel better, and since everyone had already been exposed to him, he came back over. The kids napped and Joel went down to nap some more as well. When everyone was awake, we opened presents. Hailey had SO MUCH fun. She opened hers and Miles – and decided she should play with all of his toys also. We hung out a bit until dinner time, tried to get Hailey to eat some, packed everyone up and headed home. Joel slept in the guest room downstairs to get some sleep and was feeling much better the next morning. I made homemade pizza with my new beadmaker 🙂 Joel thankfully took the kids over to his parents house a couple hours that afternoon so that I could have some alone time to get the house picked up.

Unfortunately, both of Joel’s sisters, his uncle and his cousin all got sick Christmas night. The following night, his Grandma and aunt got sick…. The gift that just keeps giving, ugh. We felt so awful. I think Christmas clouded all of our judgments, normally we would have just decided to stay home all weekend. We played out the 24 hour rule with Hailey, and since she’d already been sick around the grandparents, figured it was fine to do Christmas Eve. We were very wrong this time

Ugh the stomach flu is the worst! I've had it twice this year. Both times I think I got it from Will, but he didn't get sick, maybe because of the vaccines babies get? Phil didn't get it either time but Paul got it the first time. I also got a horrible case of the stomach flu for Paul's first Christmas. I think we got sick on the 23rd? I have never had such an awful case of the stomach flu. I ended up sleeping on the floor of the bathroom because of how often I was throwing up. Phil also did not get it that time. So we missed Christmas with my family which was tough. 🙁 I'm sure everyone understood and would have spoken up if they were worried you were bringing the virus to their house. It's such a tough call, though, as you never know when someone else is on the verge of getting it!
