SO glad we could make this trip happen since we were supposed to go last year. We took Miles with us and Hailey went with Grandma and Grandpa. Tucker and Cassie are so awesome to watch Dakota the whole time, too!
Wednesday
We got to the hotel and I hung out with Miles while Joel worked. He was able to wrap up his work in time for us to get over for the last heats of the events that evening.
Thursday
Joel and I went out for a run with Miles to start off the morning. It was nice to have company and someone else to push the stroller for the workout portion. We cut the run about half mile shorter than we had anticipated, neither of us were mentally invested in finishing it out.
We got breakfast and showered and then headed over to the lake to see the team event finishing up their paddling/swimming event. We should have looked into it a little more ahead of time since we got a little lost heading over there and the event was shorter than we originally thought so we just got to see the tail end of it.
We went to State Street and to coffee and walked around a little bit before going and watching the team events at the Energy Center. We got smoothies for lunch there since the lines for food were SO LONG everywhere else – $25 for 2 mediocre, smallish smoothies… We did quite a bit of shopping in the Rogue and Nobull tents.
We headed out a little early and went to have some Mexican food and then go back to the hotel to relax.
Friday
It was a really long day at the Games on Friday. I started the morning out by getting a run in and then we ate breakfast at the hotel. We stopped at a coffee shop that I did not enjoy on the way over to the Games. We snuck out of the event to go get lunch instead of staying there. We ended up at Firehouse Subs and they took forever to get our food….
We had the stroller with Miles for the morning for the outdoor events and then I was going to wear him for the evening events in the Arena. I ended up sitting out in the hallway with him and watching from the screen since it was so loud inside the arena and he just needed more room to squirm. It was actually a decent setup, I had so much room to sprawl out our things and watch from the big screen through the doorways.
We grabbed pizza on the way back to the room and fell asleep pretty quickly after such a full day. It wasn’t until that evening that I realized my shirt had been on inside out the whole day!
Saturday
Our last full day at the events was pretty long but I thought one of the most enjoyable. They had an outdoor, long-ish running even that we got to be really close to the athletes! I decided to just bring the stroller in and hang out in the hallway with Miles for all of the events instead of trying to bring him into the arena. It was a MUCH better setup.
The coolest thing was watching Annie Thorisdotter hit a 200 pound snatch and see the surprise on her face! Seriously, google the video.
We had some delicious Indian food takeout for dinner, watched some of the Olympics and went to bed pretty early.
Sunday
I was able to sneak my long run in while Joel and Miles slept in a bit. I got out the door around 5:30am and headed out for 7+ miles. I got a little lost so it ended up being closer to 8 miles, but it was a lovely run! The weather was great and the town of Middleton is super cute!
We got packed up and had breakfast and grabbed Starbucks again. We headed over to the Energy Center and watched the outdoor team and individual events and then hung out in the shade by the tree until the indoor events started. I had the stroller out in the hallway while Joel went into the arena again. I ended up heading outside and watching from the big screen there for the finale since there was only on elevator for the whole place and we wanted to get out of there as soon as it finished.
It was so cool to see the finale – seeing Annie Thorsidotter do well enough in the event to take third overall was amazing! I got a little teary eyed! Coming back to the Games less than a year after giving birth and seeing all of her hard work pay off, knowing that she still could compete and that being a mom didn’t get in the way of her dreams was so amazing!
Hailey’s Week
We are so so so thankful and blessed to have Joel’s parents close by and able to take care of Hailey while we were away. It would have been very challenging to have her and Miles at the events.
Hailey went to daycare Thursday and Friday and got to see her friends and start getting back into a routine.
She had so much fun with grandma and grandpa and auntie Katie! She played with the dogs, played with all of their toys, went to the lake, and kept them on their toes. It seems like she was really in to PB&Js this week. She woke up before 6 most mornings so I’m sure they will be sleeping in this week 🙂
