September 17, 2023The Dri Tri is Orange Theory Fitness’s version of a triathlon. They host it twice a year and offer a full and a half version. I did the full version again (see post from the spring one!)
The event is:
- 2000 meter row
- 2 rounds of:
- 40 bench hop overs
- 20 bench squat taps
- 20 each leg full bench step ups
- 20 push ups
- 20 plank jacks
- 10 burpees
- 5 km treadmill
I crushed my last time! The last one I finished in 59:18; this time it looks like it was 46:28! That’s an almost 13 minute PR!
- My row time was 7:38, an improvement from last time of 7:59.
- My treadmill time was 27:52, a huge improvement from 35:54!
The row was good! I felt strong the whole time and didn’t tire myself out. I actually adjusted the straps down a little farther on my foot and that seemed to help a lot on my shin!
I hopped off the rower and hit the floor. It wasn’t as packed this time as last time, so I felt like I had more room to sweat over everything. I felt strong going through all of these (except for those darn burpees!). I did the bench hop overs from the end of the bench and the push ups on my knees again, like last time. Last time I was the last person off the floor and on to the tread – this time I was right in the middle of the pack.
Quote from last time: “I was gassed when I got onto the treadmill. I was delusional in thinking I would run a sub 10 minute mile for the 5k after all of the other stuff.” — I learned my lesson from that! I got on the treadmill and walked the first 0.1 miles to get my breathing back in check and then started my run. I thought going at 6 mph would be tough to hold, but I started there and it was actually feeling so good! I started to bump my speed up by 0.1 mph every 0.25 miles until I hit 2.75 miles – then I pushed it down to a 9.0+ mph. My heart rate was so high, but I felt so in control!
I’m so impressed with myself and my improvement! Especially with the nagging hip and shin injury… I didn’t think I was even going to do this today, but I did! and I loved it.
