September 21, 2023After trying my hand at putting a paver patio in under the deck — and slightly succeeding (it’s not as level as it should be….. but it’s done) — I decided I wanted to tackle some stuff in the house. We have lived in the house for over 4 years now. With the kids getting a little older and ‘easier’ to manage, it seemed like something fun to try out.
I would like to put a built in bench and lockers in our entry way. After that is done, I would like to remove the closet and patch that up. This will give a little space back in the garage and also open up that space in the entry way that might seem constricted with the addition of the bench and lockers.
Here is what I’m looking at doing:
Here is a picture I had readily available on my phone. You can see where the closet not he left sticks out a bit. If I tear that down and make it flush with the wall, that should open it up.
On the right, there is a little wall on each side that I would run the length of. Based on looking at different sites and how to’s, it seems like I could do it in 3 stages. The bench and lower part first, the lockers, and then the cabinets on top.
Here is my inspiration picture. I like the idea of the open bench in the middle because there is a vent there. The drawers and cabinets will allow for us to put stuff out of sight, which makes me comfortable removing the closet.
Instead of just being open on the bench, I think I might put hooks there/lockers for hanging coats up.
Here is my quick drafted sketch I made.. with very rough estimates of sizes of things from eyeballing. I took actual measurements and I will measure again.. and again.. before I actually start anything.
I think I will get lumber and stuff from Home Depot. My coworker showed me they have a rebate site just like Menards does! https://www.homedepotrebates11percent.com
Tools I’m going to need that I don’t have:
- Table Saw
- Miter Saw
- Nail Gun
- Wood Glue
- All the lumber
Here is a list of a couple of blogs I was reading for how to’s:
Wish me luck!!!
