Four Years of Marriage

Cheers to our fourth anniversary! Seems like it was just yesterday. Last night we went out to dinner for a date night and reminisced on our honeymoon and marriage. Having small children does make it tough to remember our relationship sometimes, so it’s nice to have those date nights.

Reminiscing on our wedding

Some of my favorite memories from our wedding day:

  • My dad walking me down the aisle
  • The 5-ish km run the morning of the wedding with so many friends
  • Hanging out with my bridesmaids getting ready – Starbucks coffee and Panera for lunch
  • My maid of honor, Jen, had to go to Walmart to buy me spanks because my dress almost didn’t fit!
  • I kept trying to put the wedding ring on Joel’s wrong hand
  • The speeches at our reception – they were all so great, funny, and just awesome
  • So many friends and family from all over the country coming in to celebrate with us
  • My car the next morning was decorated by my Ragnar team and I had a trail of their old running shoes tied to the back

My favorite parts of marriage

I love having my best friend around all the time. Even though my introverted self loves my alone time, it’s so nice to know that after a hard day – someone that loves me will be there. Having the kids is a huge challenge and it does make it hard to remember each other when the days get long and exhausting. Joel is such a fun dad, he loves to do stuff with the kids. He loves to play with them, run around with them, throw balls with them. Knowing that I have a partner to raise the kiddos with that is such a great guy is everything.

Some of the memories over the last 4 years that really stand out:

  • Running Joel’s first 5k with him
  • Our honeymoon to Hawaii
  • Ski trips to Colorado – especially getting stuck because of the avalanches, looking back, it’s a cool story
  • Our trip to California for a wedding
  • The Boston marathon and that trip – specifically the support that I felt during the race, especially in the cold
  • Moving into our house and having the sale of our other house fall through TWICE; Joel had to go back and forth to mow the lawn at the old house because I was very pregnant
  • Getting to play in a couple slowpitch games and racquetball tournaments with Joel
  • Obviously, the kiddos
  • Visiting Kansas City with Joel and getting to show him around all my favorite places from college
  • Joel showing me around the Bethel campus and seeing the favorite places from his college

We celebrated the night before our actual anniversary by going to a brewery and having a drink before getting some Thai food and actually getting to enjoy a restaurant without having to entertain the kiddos. Looking forward to what the next year has in store!
