Plot
Monday mornings aren’t supposed to be fun, but they should be predictable. However, on this particular Monday, Stephanie Plum knows that something is amiss when she turns up for work at Vinnie’s Bail Bonds to find that longtime office manager Connie Rosolli, who is as reliable as the tides in Atlantic City, hasn’t shown up.
Stephanie’s worst fears are confirmed when she gets a call from Connie’s abductor. He says he will only release her in exchange for a mysterious coin that a recently murdered man left as collateral for his bail. Unfortunately, this coin, which should be in the office—just like Connie—is nowhere to be found.
The quest to discover the coin, learn its value, and save Connie will require the help of Stephanie’s Grandma Mazur, her best pal Lula, her boyfriend Morelli, and hunky security expert Ranger. As they get closer to unraveling the reasons behind Connie’s kidnapping, Connie’s captor grows more threatening and soon Stephanie has no choice but to throw caution to the wind, follow her instincts, and go rogue.
Full of surprises, thrills, and humor, Going Rogue reveals a new side of Stephanie Plum, and shows Janet Evanovich at her scorching, riotous best. (Goodreads)
Main Characters
- Stephanie Plum – bounty hunter for her Cousin Vinnie; goes after FTAs (failure to appears) – she is not your typical bounty hunter, she is mainly just lucky

- Vinnie – Stephanie’s shady cousin
- Grama Mazur – Stephanie’s grandma, one of my favorite characters
- Ranger – stealthy, security guru that helps Stephanie with all things
- Joe Morelli – Stephanie’s boyfriend
- Grandma Bella – Joe’s grandma
- Rex – Stephanie’s hamster, I’m so glad he’s still in the series!
- Benji, Beadle, Sparks – they are caught up in the coin stealing
My Review
Connie is kidnapped!! She is the rock in this series, so it was definitely a fun twist that she was finally the one that was in trouble. This book has the same format as the rest of the series – one main adventure and then little FTAs along the way to make Stephanie money.. and usually a new car needs to be purchased along the way. My default rating for these books is usually a 4 or a 5, just because they hold a special place in my heart.
The FTAs Stephanie goes after in this book:
- Grandma Bella! She is arrested for suspected arson.
- Sylvester Brown – wanted for armed robbery; incident with a dog while getting him
- Steven – stole a fire truck to impress a girl
- Zane Walberg – Builds and sells bombs
Likes
- With the Stephanie Plum books, you know exactly what you are going to get – this was no different
Dislikes
- Definitely feels repetitive from the other 28 books (not a shocker there) and some of the writing seems choppy and written just to have words on a page
