October 2, 2023Last Sunday, I finished putting the bench part in. I went to Home Depot and had them cut the plywood pieces to size for me with their plywood saw. I still need to add the edge banding to it before I paint, but it was exciting to get this part done!
Yesterday, I almost finished the locker cubbies. I went to Home Depot with Hailey to get supplies for it. While we were there, they had a pumpkin painting station going on for kiddos! Hailey did that before we did our shopping.
I got 2 4×8 pieces of plywood and had them cut down to 12″ x 48″ pieces for the locker portion. I started at 10 inches, but that didn’t seem wide enough, so I upped it to 12″. I used the one piece of 10″ to cut down as the spacers for thickening the board.
I think I should have spent the extra dollars to get the smoother plywood… Hopefully it looks okay once I paint it. I also ran out of shiplap. I got the thinner pieces and wanted 3 across for the cubbies… clearly I didn’t do my math right. I got the shiplap from Menards. I turns out they have a self service saw outside! I used that to cut the 8 foot sections in half so it was ready to go when I got home. They also had some pieces of thin wood in the garbage that I took and cut down to 20″ sections for spacers for the cubbies during install.
I need one more section, as you can see in the picture. I added the top and will add the rest sometime this week. Once I get them all installed, I will add the edge banding pieces. I will then paint the whole thing white. After painting, I will install the hooks into the lockers. I think I will leave it as is for now and then add cupboards on the top and doors on the lockers later.
