Midyear Refresh
I just received The Shu Box’s midyear refresh newsletter and made me think back on the past half year. Here are her refresh bullets:
1- GET OUT THAT ANNUAL LIST! Â
Here is the link to my Goals for 2024. I went less specific and overall am doing pretty well with these goals (except maybe the finishing house projects…).
- More intentional workouts
- Feel better in my body
- Make time to enjoy hobbies
- Make time to enjoy friends
- Intentional date nights/days
- Visit/spend time with family
- Finish house projects
- Eat at home more
2- ENTER EDITING MODE.  Â
Honestly, I still feel good about these goals and I don’t want to change any of them 🙂 That must mean I did something right when I set them up.
3-Â FIND YOUR #1. Â
The more intentional workouts and feeling better in my body — I think these go hand in hand. When I’m being consistent with my workouts, I feel better both mentally and physically..
4- Â CONDUCT A HABIT DEEP DIVE.Â
When I planned out the whole month of meals in January, we ate out less often and it was great! I should meal plan more, maybe not the whole month at a time.. but getting back into this habit.
5- Â ACADEMIC YEAR LOOK-BACK.Â
This doesn’t apply but work… that is a little… time consuming lately. My workload feels good and I am enjoying what I’m doing but have had a lot more late nights and working weekends lately.
6- Â SYSTEMS AUDIT!Â
The one thing I love is reading about different planner methods and trying out a million different ones. I love digital planning but have been making my own bullet journal style spreads that are very minimal and functional for work. It’s been working okay, but when I get busy, I don’t keep up..
I set up my OneNote at work in a way that I love. Running to do’s and then I can put them in the weekly priorities to try to tackle for the week. I also have Indexes for each of the business units I support with links to files (since we store stuff everywhere….) with when I got it and who it was from so that I can find stuff easier. This is working pretty well, but again, I fall behind when I get busy so taking the time each week to catch up and add new links and reconcile my task list would be helpful.
7- VACATION/PAID-TIME-OFF OVERVIEW. Â
I am on track to use most of my PTO this year. We went on vacation to visit my parents but I think planning another longer stretch of time off to get caught up on me time is in the near future.
8- BUDGETING / $$$. Â
We are stilling using YNAB for budgeting and going well. Our highest spend category outside of daycare and our mortgage is the amount we eat out! That is one area we could do better.
9-  MEDIA MANAGEMENT. Â
I set a goal of reading 120 books by the end of the year and am well on my way, but falling behind. I’ve been busy at work and I don’t read as much in the summer as I do when it’s cold out so I’m not worried about it (and it’s not even that big of a deal if I don’t get there…)
I’m at 59 books, so 1 book behind at the halfway point.
I have DNF’ed two books this year, which in itself is a huge win!!! My friend told me to stop reading a book and life’s too short for crappy books.. and I actually listened.
10- FUN ASSESSMENT!Â
Am I having enough fun? For the stage of life we are in as working parents to two young kiddos, I think so. I think our system of trading off days on the weekend to carve out me time is working well to make sure we get to have fun. I think having fun together as a couple is challenging, so being intentional with dates is important.
Favorite Daycare Pictures in June
It’s the preschool summer program so there are so many fun activities happening at daycare! Here are just a few pictures of the kiddos having a blast:

June Workout Recap
I ran Grandma’s Marathon!!! That’s just amazing to me that I finished it 🙂 I’m still proud of my mental grit to get through that.
- Miles run: 52.08
- Recorded walks: 1.42 miles
- Strength workouts: 1
I started this program last week to try to build some strength to compliment my running:
MAPS Muscle Mommy is a muscle-building and metabolism-boosting program specifically designed for women who desire a strong, firm and sculpted body. We are sick and tired of female-directed workout programs that simply deplete and weaken women while slowing down their metabolism with the ever-defeating pursuit of getting “skinny”. MAPS Muscle Mommy is our solution for women who are ready to get lean and strong the RIGHT way. It comes with a full detailed workout, dietary, supplement and lifestyle program tailored to women.
The 12-week program provides comprehensive workout blueprints, guiding you on the exercises to perform, the number of reps, rest times between movements, and the tempo to follow. Detailed videos for each exercise are included, offering a breakdown of form and technique to eliminate any guesswork.
