I qualified at the Kansas City Marathon as a one star level.
Sioux Falls Half Marathon – 9/8/13

Not gonna lie, it was pretty awesome to be back home running. It was a disgustingly hot day out. I parked at the finish and ran 8 miles to the start line to get 21 miles in. The water stops were awkwardly spaced in this race, which was not ideal on the hot and humid day. Saw Ashley and Lily around mile 8 and then dad was on the bridge by the dog park. He got some pretty sweet pictures. Great to be home, thinking of doing the marathon there next year.

Esprit de She 10k – 9/19/13

Pretty good race. 2 laps around the lake in Maple Grove. Only complaint about that was on the second loop, we ran into the people who were walking and they would not move over for runners. Also, over an hour at the end to get the food they were offering so we skipped out on that and just went home since it was a Thursday night run. PRed!

Eagle and Anchor 10k – 10/5/13

This was a company sponsored 10k. I hadn’t originally planned on racing this, but when I found out my boss and president were running, I changed my mind. A very small field so I ended up taking first place female and PRing. Course was awful, 3 loops around a lake then turn around, go almost half way around the lake and back.

Bank of America Chicago Marathon – 10/13/13

Easily the best marathon I have ever done. Felt great the whole time. Never hit a wall. Just a fun, fun event. I think I could have gone a little faster but knowing I had another marathon six days later, I held back a little. Stuck with Cristina until about mile 12 and then turned around and she was gone. It was great to be with her for the first little bit.

Kansas City Marathon – 10/19/13

Definitely hit a wall in this one, right around mile 19. Was with the 4 hour pace group up until then, and then they just passed me. I was with James for a while, then Emily met up us and ran with us until 20. Christine picked me up at 20 and ran me into the finish (well, ran/walked). They were absolutely amazing and I am so glad I have such awesome friends. I saw John at around 22 at his house – he had the best sign ever! Dr. Wrobel came out and cheered me on at mile 6 too! Not a lot of crowd support for the marathon and they had no liquids at the mile 18 water stop, they had run out.. other than that the race was pretty good. Huge medal! I went and played in an alumni slowpitch game about an hour after I finished.

Monster Dash Half Marathon – 10/26/13

Team Ortho did it again… terribly organized event. I got 4 miles in before the race started and then sat around, freezing. Once we were all in the corrals, they decided to push the start back10 minutes because it looked like people were still heading towards the start. They then had issues at the start line so nobody’s chip time got registered. They then sent out an email blaming a different organization for that issue. Lame.
Besides all of those issues, I did a pretty good race. Went pretty easy, ran with a lady the whole time who does 50 milers. We stopped and waited for the 1:55 pace group to catch up at every water stop. Felt great afterwards.

Okay race, small field. I ended up in 3rd in my age group. Easily hung onto the 4 hour pace group until mile 20, and then we hit a long, windy stretch and I lost them. After that, my knee started acting up. I could barely bend it. So started walking around mile 23. Cool medal though!!
