Mid-year Reading Update

Top 10 books so far

My number one book so far this year is The Women by Kristin Hannah. It’s historical fiction following three women nurses in the Vietnam war and all of the stigmas and PTSD that came with that. It was so well written.

Here are my top 10 books so far for the year, in the order that I read them. They are a mix of genres, which pretty much sums up me!

StoryGraph stats

I found it interesting that my top 10 books so far this year span so many different genres. That made me happy because it means I’m not just reading my cozy mystery books (although from the graph below… I basically am!).

My top 5 genes this year so far are Mystery (duh), contemporary, romance, thriller and sports. The sports one surprised me a bit but with the amount of hockey romances I’ve read from TikTok recommendations, I guess that makes sense.

No surprise that the majority of my books for the year so far are fiction. I’m surprised the non-fiction is at 10% actually. The top three moods are mysterious, funny and emotional, with lighthearted to too far behind that. That about sums up what I’ve been craving reading – lighthearted, some mystery but not too gory, and as far from my book triggers as possible.

I don’t think I have any specific goals for the rest of the year with WHAT to read. I’ll likely continue on with the cozy mysteries, although my most recent ones have been a little blah, so I might need to mix it up. I am always impressed when people plan out their read for the year, I mainly put stuff on hold at the library and read whatever comes available.
