April 10, 2022I ran the Hot Chocolate 15k as part of my training run. I needed to get 16 miles in so I got there early and got 7 miles in by myself. I headed on the downtown trail and then back to the start line to meet up with Christie.
We ran the whole run together. We we were in the second corral and made our way to the front to sprint start to look like we were leading the race! Ooft we weren’t ready for that sprint :). We slowed down and decided to run every mile and then walk a minute at each mile marker. A couple miles into the race, a woman in front of us dropped her car key. I picked it up and had to sprint to try to catch her… my legs didn’t love that either! The course was the same course as the Hot Dash a couple weeks earlier so we knew it would be hilly and tough. This race seemed way tougher for me towards the end – but we were cruising, doing sub 10s the whole way. We chipped away at the miles, but the last 5k, I definitely was feeling fatigued. I was so thankful to see the finish line – I definitely did not sprint it this time!
We finished and walked to get our treats. We met up with a woman that I’ve been chatting with through the WW app that came to visit Minneapolis and run during her spring break. She was super nice and I’m glad that I’ve gotten to connect with her! We poured a little peppermint schnapps into our hot chocolate and enjoyed the sunshine before heading home. One of these days I might race a race, but today was just enjoying the crowd and support for my training run.
