Can you believe we’re already almost halfway through 2025? Between half marathon training (not as much right now, even though I should be!), wrangling my two little sidekicks, and getting our house ready to sell, I somehow managed to sneak in plenty of reading these last three months. Here’s what I read from March through May.
March
Books 9 • Pages 1,409 • Listening hours 32.1 • Average rating 3.56
My brain was mostly in fiction mode (89 percent) and I lived on audiobooks (67 percent). Mystery topped the charts but I also snuck in a math book and a little literary flair.
- Humble Pi by Matt Parker (4.5 stars) Math in digestible chapters
- The Murder Show by Matt Goldman (3.75 stars) Twisty, tense, and totally bingeable, auto-buy author for me
- This Book Will Bury Me by Ashley Winstead (3.75 stars) Equal parts campy and creepy
April
Books 13 • Pages 1,842 • Listening hours 30.3 • Average rating 3.6
I bumped up nonfiction to 31 percent with Deep Medicine and still stayed true to cozy mysteries. Audio was the majority again at 62 percent, and I finished each title in about a week..with lots of listening between work deadlines and swim lessons.
- Big Dumb Eyes by Nate Bargatze (4 stars) I love his standup so really fun to listen to this audiobook
- King of Ashes by S.A. Cosby (4 stars) Dark, gripping, and impossible to put down, but gory!
- Making Friends Can Be Murder by Kathleen West (4 stars) Cozy charm and fun dialogue
May
Books 9 • Pages 1,006 • Listening hours 26.15 • Average rating 3.61
I stuck strictly to fiction in May and leaned entirely on audiobooks (every single one clocked in at 8–15 hours). Here are my top three:
- The Queens of Crime by Marie Benedict (4.25★) Historical mystery with enough glamour and grit to keep me hooked.
- Don’t Let Him In by Lisa Jewell (4.25★) Tense domestic thriller that had me double-checking my locks.
- How to Read a Book by Monica Wood (4.0★) A lovely ode to book lovers that felt like a hug in prose.
Every book landed in the 300–499-page range and took me about a week to finish.
