My Remarkable Paper Pro arrived and I’m…. mostly… loving it

I posted about my reMarkable tablet a few weeks ago and how much I was loving that. Then a month after getting it, they made an announcement they were releasing the new remarkable paper Pro tablet. It had color and backlighting and it was bigger, all the things that I thought would be amazing to have, so I got it.

My tablet arrived pretty quickly, took about a week to be delivered. And boy was I excited! It was so sleek looking as I opened it, and because I already had the subscription for connecting, everything from my old remarkable account just moved right onto my new tablet.

I’ve been using it now for about a week and here are the things that stick out the most to me:

  • It’s expensive…. So expensive. For this price, if you’re looking for lots of things – this is not for you. It is a replacement for notebooks, not a competitor to the iPad.
  • The larger size than the reMarkable 2 is nice! I likely won’t use this as an ereader due to the size and weight, I’ll stick with my Kindle for that.
  • The pen is a big let down. I fell in love with the reMarkable 2 because of the feel of the writing. This is a step back to me. This feels very similar to my iPad pro with a matte screen protector and an apple pencil. This does not feel like the paper and pen feel I get with the remarkable 2. I don’t think I would buy this had I felt the way the pen feels on the screen before purchasing, honestly. The pen is more accurate than the remarkable 2, but that one didn’t really have an issue in my mind so this is a big big let down.
  • The color is nice – specially for when I’m taking notes on a PDF that has colors that are similar. This helped with differentiating those color images. The color is not like an iPad, it’s an eink color. It’s not as vibrant as some of the images online make it look.. it’s extremely muted. It also doesn’t write in the color you want, it sort of glitch refreshes and switches to the color you were using. Not great, but I stick mostly to black anyways.

Final verdict. It’s great…. But if I were to choose, I would honestly choose the reMarkable 2 for it’s amazing writing experience, which is the whole purpose of getting an eink tablet to begin with.
