December 27, 2023Link to the digital planner I will be using this year.
My Equipment
My main iPad I use for digital planning is my iPad Pro. I bought this used off of Facebook Marketplace a couple of years ago, mainly to use as a big screen on the treadmill to do Peloton workouts. It has been used for that.. but then I discovered digital planning and I mainly use it for that now. I’m using a Logitech case with it. I really like the case for multiple reasons. The typing is super nice but it also has a detachable keyboard so I can lay the iPad flat to write or use it to read books.
Because I am me… and I love all the gadgets, I also have an iPad mini. This is a fantastic little device. It fits in my purse so I can bring it along with me to do digital planning on the go. It’s also a great size to read books on!
But wait, THERE’S MORE. I have an iPad that I use for work. This one has a Magic Keyboard (that I originally got with my marketplace purchase) with it. I don’t use my Apple Pencil as much as I used to for taking notes… but my work iPad has my Goodnotes linked to it as well as OneNote so that if I do take notes with it during meetings, they show up on my work laptop.
This isn’t necessarily digital planning… but I mainly use my Kindle Oasis for reading books. It’s so nice to have a device that doesn’t have a million other apps on it so I don’t get distracted. I can send books over from the library’s Libby app and also download advanced reader copies of ebooks straight from NetGalley. I do take the case off quite often, it’s less bulky and easy to hold, although the cover isn’t much bulk at all.
Digital Planner Setup
Since I’m using my iPad, I will be using Goodnotes for planning. They just released Goodnotes 6, which is a different pricing structure but has more options than previously.
This year, I decided to try out the KDigitalStudio Cyberry Planner. I have purchased it in the past and haven’t used it. Last year, I jumped between the Passion Planner and DigiSparkles HoboHybrid. I liked those two for different reasons. I like the Cyberry Planner because it looks very clean and I don’t get overwhelmed with all of the other add in that are thrown into planners.
When I first started with digital planning, I wanted the ones that had EVERYTHING and ALL THE STICKERS. And then I didn’t use them and would feel guilty. I am a much more functional planer and my spreads end up being pretty basic and boring, but help me keep myself organized — which is the whole point!
So – here is the planner I have for 2024 and how I plan to use some of the sections for now. The creator of the planner has amazing tutorials on YouTube and inspirations on how to use the planners, but this is how I see myself using it this year.
Monthly View
There are 5 hyperlinked monthly views. I have done most of my planning in weekly views, but this seems like a good view to start playing with more. I decided I’ll use 3 of the calendars for now and see how that works out. I have how I plan to use it listed below.
Here is my January planned out for the Family Calendar. Joel will be gone for part of the month, so I blocked that off.
As you’ll see below, I have a goal to eat in all of January (unless planned ahead of time). I am using the second monthly view for meal planning for the month. This is my start – dinners planned out while Joel is in town. I chose flexitarian meals – meals that can either with mean for Joel or vegetarian for me.
Monthly Goals
I’m not sure if I’ll use this section the whole year, but it seemed like a good one to at least start January with since I have some specific goals anyways.
Month in Review
I used to love filling in these sections in my Passion Planner back when I used that one. This is what it looks like in this planner, we’ll see if I use it or not!
Weekly Views
I do best in weekly views for my planning. Here is an example of this week. I have the week off so don’t have any meetings planned in, but I use the highlighter tool to block the time on the calendar for when I’ll be occupied.
There is also a horizontal view you can use. I like the time blocks, my brain works well in that space. I do like the horizontal view for doing workout recaps though! I might use that… or the monthly view, we’ll see what works best as I go!
Daily Pages
I wish I was the type of person who could use the daily pages sections. I see them all the time on Instagram and how people fill them out.. but I am more of a weekly planner. I don’t have enough to say to fill out that much space! It might be a good way to break down my tasks for the day at work, etc… but I use OneNote and the weekly view for most of that already….
There is also a finances section (I used YNAB, so won’t be using that) as well as notebook sections. But these are the pages I see myself using for planning and staying organized for 2024!
