I knew 2013 was going to be interesting but it’s already off to a quick and eventful start. I am 40 days away from my 3rd marathon and 67 days away from owning a house!
It was also just announced that there would be redeployment of engineering resources in the Power Product department. I am being moved into current product support of a military program that will be going into beta build in April. This is actually really exciting for me. It has been a slow start, not too many new products or projects in the marine department. I will now be putting in full days and then some! If you know me at all, you know this is exactly what I need. The set I will be working on is an 800kW (way bigger than the marine sets, which only go up to 99 kW) and will be used by the air force. It has a very solid design but as everything, things go wrong. I will be in charge of making sure those things are fixed, i.e. a bracket isn’t the right size, the suppliers sent in the wrong length hosing..etc. It will be a new experience and I will really get to know the set inside and out. Lots of on the spot problem solving to make sure that things are still up to military standards. Luckily, this set had a really solid team designing it so I don’t see anything big going wrong so this will be a great starting place to get my hands dirty and actually think like an engineer.
On another note – the test cell system that I design is almost complete. It is so awesome seeing something that you designed and was modeled on the computer actually made. I felt so proud when I saw that piece of sheet metal all stamped and bent how I designed. 🙂
So here’s to change! Hoping it’s good change 🙂
