August 27, 2023I took part in the Moms on the Run 10k to finish off the Summer 2023 MotR season.
We carpooled down the the race and got there a little early. Since we met at Target for the carpooling, I grabbed myself some Starbucks for the drive down. I was still pretty tired from the late trip back from Seattle, so caffeine was needed.
The race took place at Lake Phalen, which was great since they had read toilets to use before the race started!
I had no real goal for this race since I haven’t been running as much lately. I started off with a crew from my group with the plan to do 4:1 intervals. We started off just over a 10 minute mile as we headed out for two loops around the lake.
There is one little hill towards the beginning and then around mile 2 and 5, a lovely, steep hill. Thankfully, there was a water station about 2/3 of the way up the hill to give us the excuse to walk after getting some water.
The first loop was uneventful, it was great to have people to run with. The second loop, I was still feeling great! I serenaded everyone with some beautiful Sam Smith and Spice Girls.
With about a mile left, I headed off with one of the women from my group to start picking people off. We passed quite a few people in the that last mile as we coasted in at around a 9:30 pace.
After the race, we hung out and watched the kids race and then had the awards ceremony. I was a little stressed out knowing that we had Hailey’s bday party that afternoon and I was going to have less time to get ready than I had originally intended. Thankfully, I had prepped most things the day before, so that helped me relax.. a little.
We split a pizza from the wood fired pizza food truck on the ride back. I’m so glad I did the race! It was awesome to be able to run with people from my group the whole time also!
