So I haven’t updated on any of my races since Kansas City. Soooo here goes.
October 27: Surf the Murph 25k
I made it about 9 miles and my knee went out, I never thought I would have to drop out of a race but I couldn’t walk. The second the amazing volunteers at the water stop went to put icy hot on it and pulled my spandex up, my knee ballooned. An interesting morning, MRI and crutches later it was just a severe sprain. I was on crutches for a little over a week and then took another week off of running.

Marcy and Tanya ran with me! They did great! |

I talked my coworker Ross into running this race, he ended up winning it! Also, I have not been able to find that coat since that race.. hmmmm |

They had a branding rod for me! How special |

November 10: Diva Dash 5k
Due to my knee, and this being the first time running since the injury, I dropped from the 10k to the 5k. I didn’t expect to run as fast as I did – I came in at a 25:52. Pretty exciting!

My coworker Hans came and cheered me on! We look amazing |

November 18: Lifetime Indoor Triathalon
Me and three of my coworkers did the Lifetime Indoor Tri which consisted of 10 minutes swimming, 30 minutes biking and then 20 minutes on the treadmill. It was quite awesome. I talked Ross into doing this one too, and again he won. I swam 18 pool lengths, biked 15 miles, and ran 2.13 miles.

December 1st: Reindeer Run 5k
I ran 8 miles with some of the club runners and then did the Reindeer Run 5k. My knee was really starting to get to me. I finished the race in 26:11. One of these days I’ll hopefully get down to those 22 minute 5k’s I used to be able to run!

December 8: Donut Run ~25k
I say ~25k since I only did 13.49 miles. This was a fun event. It was a free, barely organized run. About a hundred people showed up. There were 5 donut shops that we ran to on the route. My group sort of improvised and went off our own way for a while. Good time!

First race of 2013!!
January 1st: Polar Dash Half Marathon
I am very, very proud of myself for this race. The start was -8 degrees and their ‘heating tent’ didn’t provide any heat. I was convinced my toes had frozen and were going to break off, super painful!! I figured I would run about 2:30 because I couldn’t move. It was an out and back with the 10k and then the half marathoners went out farther and came back to the finish. Because it was so cold, Team Ortho gave us the option to finish at the 10k and get a finishing time and medal. That first out and back, coming up to the finish for the 10k was so tempting to just finish. I was so tired and cold and all my clothes were frozen. Mitch, Gordie and Ryan came to cheer us on and I knew that if I could just get turned around and headed back out, they would be all I needed to get me going. I finally got my body moving and headed back out and ended up catching up to little Emily from the club. The last 4 miles seemed to take FOREVER. According to the splits (which I think are off, there’s no way I was going that fast at first and that slow at the end, not according to my Garmin – no way it’s off by THAT much) I increased my pace by about 3 minutes a mile for the last 5k. But I finished: a respectable 2:01:01. Not to shabby for it being so cold. At the finish, they had hot chocolate, which was the best tasting stuff at the time, and I don’t even like chocolate! Kate, Tanya and I went out for some yummy Perkins afterwards to celebrate the great start to the running New Year!

Preparing to head out into the cold, my scarf froze almost immediately from my breathing |

So frozen I could barely get my stuff into the bag check |

Official results, there’s no way I was going that fast/slow through those splits.. I think they had them marked at the wrong distances |
