January 25, 2012My Last Semester
February 1, 2012What an amazing trip. The conference was one of the most put together of any I have attended. not surprising since it was military related.
Quick recap:
Thursday
Upon arrival in San Diego, I discover I will be rooming with someone, much to my surprise. This turns out to be a blessing. Never in my life have I met someone so similar to me. Her name was Cera and she is an electrical engineering major from Oregon State. After getting settled and a short walk around the area,it was time to get dressed for the reception and dinner. The admiral spoke to us on how important engineering was and the goals for SAME. He was an amazing speaker and definitely captivated the audience when he spoke
Friday
What a busy day! Early morning breakfast and then started the student part of the workshop. First up was student chapter guidelines. we received a handy manual that will definitely benefit our student chapter. After that we had a speaker talk to us about resume and interview tips. ASK GOOD QUESTIONS. A quick break for lunch and we were learning about military engineering, ethics and professionalism, and then a good two hour discussion on student chapter practices. I got a long list compiled of suggestions that will greatly benefit the chapter. This concluded the workshop and we were free to explore.
Cera and I headed next door to get sushi go dinner then ended up heading back to the hotel to indulge in some dessert. Spendy, but delicious.
Saturday
Another early morning. After breakfast we packed up the bus and headed to the north island naval base. We tired their new barricks and drive along the water front to check out their helicopters and fixed wings. Definitely breath taking. We loaded the bus and headed to the airport where everyone else would board planes to head home while I took a shuttle to a different hotel to explore the city for one more night.
I ended up in old town, which is very cultural. After a short run I had lunch at a Mexican restaurant and then explored the Saturday street market. Dinner was at a modern sushi place that I thoroughly enjoyed. Back in the room for a relaxing night, I was surprised with a knock on the door from room service. A special somebody ordered me a piece of strawberry cheesecake.
Sunday
My alarm went off at 4 am and I boarded a shuttle to the airport. I am currently sitting in first class on my way back to Kansas City.
All in all, I would say it was a very successful weekend.
