Sioux Falls Trip | July 2025

Up early for running club on Thursday! Both kids had a sleepover in Hailey’s room, and I took Miles’s room so I could sneak out without waking Joel. We ran a few miles on the track. After the run, we grabbed Caribou and hung out for a bit, which was so fun. I took the day off work so I could enjoy the morning and take my time.

Brought the cats over to Joel’s parents’ house. Then we were off to daycare for the Fourth of July parade — the kids were absolutely adorable. Joel was able to come this year for the first time, which made it extra special!

Went home to pack up some more and get ready to hit the road for Sioux Falls. Said goodbye to the house…

Picked the kids up after they ate lunch and hit the road! We stopped a little after halfway when Hailey declared she was only hungry for “gas station food.” We grabbed a couple of snacks and did a quick potty break. Had to stop one more time about 45 minutes from Sioux Falls for another bathroom break (of course).

I listened to my audiobook for most of the drive and also juggled a bunch of moving and mortgage stuff, so the time actually flew by. The kids had the tablet the whole way, which definitely helped.

Once we got to Sioux Falls around 5, the kids had a blast playing. We grabbed pizza for dinner, then they watched a movie before bed. I had some ice cream with Toby and Andrea and headed to bed early myself.

The kids actually slept all night and slept until 615!

Made some breakfast and hung out around the house the 4th of July morning. We last minuted decided to go to Lennox 4th of July parade, but gosh it was hot! The kids did really well overall. Miles wasn’t a big fan of the loud noises and hit his limit toward the end, but he hung in there.

My childhood friend and her whole family were there too, and they had a tent set up along the route, so we at least had some shade (lifesaver!).

We came home to cool off for a bit and have some lunch — Happy Meals for the kids, Taco John’s for the adults. After that, we headed over to the park to play, but it was SO hot. We were right next to the pool, so we decided to just go for it and swim! The pool was only open for another hour because of the 4th, but honestly, that was the perfect amount of time for me to wrangle two kids by myself. This was the pool I grew up going to all the time and even learned to swim there, so it was really fun to see the kiddos love it!

After the pool, we headed back to the house. Andrea and I ran to the store to grab some food for dinner. The kids ate and played some more, and then we went outside to play with the little fireworks we had. They absolutely loved the snaps you throw on the ground.

After that, I got the kiddos inside and into bed. Miles fell asleep almost immediately, and Hailey was trying so hard to stay awake. Unfortunately, the bed they left for me was the toddler bed… the things we do as parents!

Honestly, I actually slept pretty well on the toddler bed. I thought I’d be up forever, but I fell asleep almost immediately. Everyone slept through the night, and the kids were up around 6:45.

I got changed and headed out for a run… it was SO muggy! I even had to stop at a gas station halfway through to grab a Gatorade just to survive it.

Had some breakfast and I grabbed a latte from Starbucks. The kids ran around the house playing for a while.

We went to Hu Hot for lunch, swung by to get Toby’s phone fixed (the kids were having so much fun playing with the display phones and taking pictures of each other).

We dropped Toby at the house and went to get Miles his hair cut. Then all hell broke loose with the move… ugh!! I’ll post about that later because it’s just so freaking much and makes me sick to my stomach.

We went to Sherman park to watch some ringneck softball then went to the zoo. The splash pad there was amazing but they turned it off at 4:30. We headed back to Toby’s. Andrea and I swung by Hyvee to get some groceries and then had some dinner.

Played a bunch of basketball in the living room with the kids before getting them to bed. Then I watched an episode of The Bear with Toby and Andrea before heading to bed myself — definitely feeling the stress from the move.

Woke up around 6:45 to Hailey yelling in her sleep, “Oooo my cake!” (still laughing about that one). We had some coffee while the kids played a bit, then headed out around 8:45 to go to McDonald’s and let them burn some energy at the play place before hitting the road. I’m posting this while the kiddos play. It’s pretty cool they have reached an age they just play at things like this and I don’t have to supervise too much.

Of course, Hailey forgot a toy, so we have to make a pit stop to grab it before we officially get going.

We close on the old house tomorrow morning, there is a final walk through tonight. I’ll probably have to stop by to do some cleaning when I get back after all the chaos that happened yesterday with the moving company. Just utter chaos and awful experience!

Here’s to hoping things smooth out and the rest of the moving stuff goes better!
