April 3, 2023The Dri Tri is Orange Theory Fitness’s version of a triathlon. They host it twice a year and offer a full and a half version. I decided to do their full version and ooft, it was hard! I was impressed with how well so many people did. I was pretty close to last!
The event is:
- 2000 meter row
- 2 rounds of:
- 40 bench hop overs
- 20 bench squat taps
- 20 each leg full bench step ups
- 20 push ups
- 20 plank jacks
- 10 burpees
- 5 km treadmill
My row time was 7:59.
My treadmill time was 35:54.
The row was hard but actually not as hard as I had anticipated. I went into it with the mindset of just being consistent and going slow, aiming for about 2-2:15 per 500m. I surprised myself for sure with how well I did!
The floor was HARD!! My plan for the floor was to not stop moving and to use the step ups as my active recovery. I had to do the bench hop overs from the end of the bench to scale and do the push ups from my knees. The burpees were insanely hard at the end of the exercises! My goodness. I was actually a little annoyed because the girl next to me did not do all the reps (by a lot… like skipped 20 step ups each time through…. And then said she did them…)… I was the last person to finish the floor exercises and start on the tread but it wasn’t as ego hitting as I thought it would be.
I was gassed when I got onto the treadmill. I was delusional in thinking I would run a sub 10 minute mile for the 5k after all of the other stuff. I had to walk a while to get control of my breathing and when I finally got my heart rate in the green zone, I set the treadmill to 6 mph annnnnnd immediately had to walk again. My favorite coach saw this and was awesome. He said to get control of my breathing, slow down and just get it done. I set the treadmill to 5.0 mph and just cruised. At 1.5 miles, I started to up the mph by 0.1 every 0.25 miles. I then upped it to 8.0 mph for the last 0.15 miles… and was done! And was soooooooooo done!
I can’t wait til next one to see how much I improve.
