Friday
We decided last minute Friday morning to head to Sioux Falls to visit family. My parents had made it to town so it seemed like a great way to spend the weekend. After my meetings and a quick lunch, Joel and I went to daycare to get the kiddos. Joel gave them a hug and helped me get them in the car and we were off!
Miles slept for about an hour/hour and a half, but Hailey did not like him sleeping. She wanted him to be awake. They did pretty well until we got to Worthington and stopped at a gas station for diaper changes and a snack for them. We hit the road and got to Sioux Falls a little before dinner time. We went to T and A’s house to hang out there for the evening. T and A had plans, so I was on babysitting duty for my nephew, C. He is a couple years older than Hailey and she LOVES to play with him. I packed Hailey and C into my car and went to Target to grab groceries for dinner and buy a new sound machine since I forgot Haileys at the house. I made some pasta and garlic cheese bread for dinner (I had a big salad) and then my parents headed back to their hotel. It was an interesting evening trying to wrangle the 3 kiddos! Miles didn’t want to go to bed, Hailey got scared, Charlie fought bedtime – they are all little con artists trying to prolong bedtime. I had to bring water and different blankies and visit multiple times for each of them. Hailey snuck up the stairs at one point but finally went to bed after some strong words around 9:30.

Saturday
Our morning started bright and early with a wake up call from Miles at 4:45 am. I had to get him a bottle from upstairs, but Hailey got scared to be left alone so she came up the stairs with me and woke up the house. T was so awesome and helped get her back to bed. We laid around for a little bit but the my kids were ready to party. I loaded them up and took them to my parents hotel to eat some hotel breakfast. Miles was an eating machine! After some breakfast, my dad and I took the kids to Target to wander around. I bought a couple books that were buy one get one 50% off (the last 2 books in the Court of Thorns and Roses series!). T and A’s house was up so we went back over there to hang out. We were all pretty darn tired so just hung out at the house until lunch. T and I ran to Burger King to grab food for everyone and after lunch, got the kids down for naps (or tried to – Hailey didn’t want to nap).
I had to wake Miles up after about a 2.5 hour nap to get him ready to go – we were off to the trampoline part to meet up with one of my best friends. Hailey had a blast! Miles was not having it, he just wanted to be held and not jump or do anything. After the trampoline park, we went to the mall to play at the play place a little bit and then got pictures with Santa.

After Santa, we went to Pizza Ranch for dinner. Miles ate a ton and really perked up! He might have just been a little hungry. We headed back and got my kiddos down to bed early – it was a way better bedtime than the night before! I got to chat a bit with T and A before heading back downstairs to read and go to bed. Thanks goodness I went down early and got a little sleep….

Sunday
I woke up in the middle of the night with my tonsils swollen SO much. I couldn’t swallow, I could barely talk. I waited til Miles woke up at 4 am, and then woke up T to hang out with Hailey if she woke up. I took Miles to head to the ER to get some oral steroids. My mom met us in the parking lot to hang out with Miles so he didn’t have to hang out in the hospital. He snuggled her and drank his bottle. It was a fairly quick in and out, the Dr. checked my throat, I got my steroid and I was out the door in about half hour. Normally I would have waited til urgent care opened, but since we were leaving later that morning, I needed it to start working ASAP.
My mom and I went and got Caribou and let Miles run around in there a bit while everyone was still asleep. Hailey and the rest woke up at 6:30! I brought them back some caffeine and then picked up Hailey and we all went to the hotel for some breakfast. The cousins ran around and had breakfast. Miles was obsessed with going and getting juice from the juice machine. After breakfast and terrorizing the hotel lobby for a little bit, we headed back to T and As house to hang out a bit before packing up to hit the road.
I got the kids packed up and on the road a little before 11. Miles fell asleep almost immediately. Hailey did not, shocker! We made it all the way to St. Peter to fill up with gas and then grab some McDonalds and Taco Johns drive thru to get some lunch. We made it home a little before 3. Joel had cleaned up the house so nicely! I unloaded the kiddos, my new running shoes had arrived, and I headed out for a nice, solo 3 miles. Joel watched the kids so I could go read and have dinner alone as well. We got the kids bathed and down for an early bedtime (although… Miles was up at 3 screaming for an hour and had to come lay in bed with me to calm down… hoping we don’t get in that habit).
Overall – it was a great, impromptu weekend seeing family and a friend! The kids did pretty darn good in the car ride with only a little bit of scream crying. I’m looking forward to my family coming up for Thanksgiving!!
